2 Timothy
When interpreting scripture, you are always going to run in to different interpretations. One of the best things to do is to pray and ask God to reveal to your heart what it means. In fact, if you take that scripture out a bit further, in vs 7 it says "Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this." (2 Timothy 2:7 NIV) But, I will share with you what I take away from the scripture. I would also love to hear anyone else that has a specific opinion of what they think it means. 2 Tim. 2:1-5 NIV You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. We are being advised to go out and share the gospel that has so freely been shared with us with other people. We are told to remember that we are in a spiritual battle and so there will be opposition to us. Just like when Jesus was sharing God's Word, He was persecuted for it. Anyone who shares the Gospel will at some point have to deal with opposition because of it, but we don't stop then. We continue to fight the good fight with our heavenly crown in sight. We are not supposed to allow the cares and concerns of this world to become a distraction from our true purpose on this earth - To serve God and to bring His people back to Him. I hope that helps. Like I said, pray over the scripture and ask God to reveal the truth within His Word to your heart. God Bless! Ameerah Lewis Are YOU Reaching for the Hem? |
