If sin is no longer our master, and we have been given the power to defeat sin, then why do we still sin?

Hi Cathy, You asked, if we are free from sin, why do we still sin. We still sin because we're are all 3 part beings: We are a spirit We have a soul (mind, will and emotions) and we live in a body. When we accepted Christ as our Savior, our spirits were recreated, but our mind, emotions and body were not. Before we ever act, we think. Even if it is just a subconscious thought. But, if our minds have not been recreated, then our thinking is not in line with God's Word and His will for our lives. That is why Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We have to constantly be renewing our minds to God's way of thinking and doing things and away from the world's way. You do that through prayer, scriptural meditation ,and studying God's Word. I hope that helps. God Bless! Ameerah Lewis http://www.hem-of-his-garment-bible-study.org/grow |

Reply to "Sin"
The bible states in Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. This basically means that it is in my mind to do right, but I do not have any power (of my own) to do right. Sin not being our master means that we have a way, through Christ Jesus, to overcome sin. It is in Him, that we live, move and have our being. Therefore, through Him, we have the power to resist the sins that so easily beset us. This is not to say that we won't mess up from time to time, however, the desire to "willfully sin", will be replace by the "will" to do right. |
