I have come across a lot of material from various resources professing the oneness of the universe. And, in all these assertions, it is also said we are God. Not individually, but together all consciousness is God. Are there any verses that mention this unity of the universe?
The concept of Hell (the total separation from God, not necessarily demons poking you with pitch folks) I think is a good indicator of our oneness with God because it implies that no one, while on earth, is totally separated from God. That may rationalize why there is goodness in unbelievers. The only person to be totally separated from God while on earth was Christ at the cross, who is God.
I know Satan tainted Adam and Eve with the promise of becoming gods, so when it is said that we are God it sends red flags to my Bible-fearing brain. I don't want to be misled.

Satan can be quite cunning...
Hi Sasha, I am so glad that you brought this up. This is something that I am very passionate about because it’s a theory that I once struggled with. It’s an ideology that is being pushed more and with the growing popularity of the internet. You made an important statement. You said that your "Bible-fearing brain" sent up some red flags. It sounds good to your logical mind, but it just does not feel right. That is the Holy Spirit speaking to you. That still small voice guiding you away from this twisted truth. This is one of the ways that Satan uses just enough of the truth to attract Christians, but sprinkles in enough of his lie to create confusion and lure us away from God. The idea of the "Oneness of the Universe" is directly from pagan religions. The idea that we are all cumulatively God means that the existence of God is dependent on us. Over time, it leads people to the conclusion that their lives are not dependent on God because they themselves are God. What truth is Satan perverting here? [God does live inside of us through the power of the Holy Spirit, but, we ourselves are not God.] You stated that: "The concept of Hell (the total separation from God, not necessarily demons poking you with pitch folks) I think is a good indicator of our oneness with God because it implies that no one, while on earth, is totally separated from God." But, though this assumption is logical, it is not biblical. A mass murder is not one with God or connected to God. He is under the direct influence of the devil who is a lier and a thief. If we are not born again Christians, then the Holy Spirit (God) is not living inside of us. Why is this theory so dangerous to you as a Christian? Mental and spiritual strongholds begin as a thought. That thought is like a seed. The longer the thought remains in the persons mind the more it grows and flourishes. This seed is not that of a beautiful flower, but of a weed that will begin to challenge all that a Christian believes. Not initially, but over time as it develops and grows. The ultimate goal of this seed is to bring people to the place where they begin to question the relevance of biblical morality. How? Because, if we are all God, shouldn't we be able to determine our own morality? Where does that lead us? To a place where ultimate good is not determined by God, but by man. For example: "Let us come together to determine the morality of abortion - we do not need God to tell us because we ourselves are God." That is a dangerous place to be - and that is exactly where Satan wants us. I hope I have not confused you more. If you have any more questions related to this, just add them through the comments box under your original question. God Bless! Ameerah |
