A few years ago when I was fourteen or so I made a promise to God. Sadly I have broken this promise again and again.
I remember reading somewhere that if a young woman makes a promise to God and is still living in her father's house, that the father can somehow "make it invalid" so to speak. But now that I am 16, I am only living with my mother because my father recently passed away.
What am I to do? What type of punishments are there for breaking a promise with God? Am I still bound to it even though I've broken it?
Please help!

You Don't Have To Live in Bondage
Hello, I think a key thing that is missing in the lives of many Christians is a true understanding of the Person of God - Who He really is and His heart towards you as His child. God is not looking for ways or reasons to punish you, He is looking for ways and reasons to bless you. We have all made broken promises to God at one time or another. We promise that we are going to pray more or read our Bible's more often. We pray that we are going to be better stewards of our money, or loads of other things that we promise to do. But, our failure to follow through does not separate us from God's love - Nothing Can: "I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love." (Romans 8:38 NLT) So, how do you make it right with God? Just like when you break a promise to anyone you love, you tell them you are sorry, and you change the way you have behaved. In Christianity we call it repenting, but it just means to apologize to God and to turn your back on previous mistakes. If you do not plan on fulfilling the promise, then be honest with God and ask Him to help you not to make commitments to Him that you can't keep in the future.
