Whose Battle is It?

by Tonya Epps
(Smyrna)

They surrounded me,
Yes, they surrounded me;
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

-Psalms 118:11

How do you handle attacks from the enemy of our soul? Do you stand in the word of God and fight, or do you run? By understanding that in our strength we can do only so much, but we can call on the word of God which tells us we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. This knowledge will make us bold to go forth in strength and power of the Holy Spirit and deal with those who would dare to surround us.

Part of preparation and training is knowing what we can handle with God’s strength and what we need Him to deal with for us. Or better yet, to make a way of escape so we don’t have to fight at all. I tell you truthfully, when attacks came, I spiritually ran and hid. I cried out, “Abba deliver me from the hand of my enemy!” No, that’s not scriptural at all. But that was my way to handle it.

The best part about it is the past tense. As I continue to trust Jehovah Jireh, He continues to show me what is in my strength to handle with the power of the Holy Spirit. If you too have been running spiritually, it’s time to stop. Allow the Head of every man, Jesus Christ, to enter in and show you how to fight.

Know who you are and most importantly, Whose you are. Before reading the word of God daily, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to quicken the word to you so that you will understand what God is saying. Ask Him to write the word on the tablet of your heart so that it will always be there to call on for battle and times of need (or want). The way you used to meditate on a problem (continuing to think about it) begin to meditate on God’s word. “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8-9)

Watch and see what the Lord will do when you let Him! I am still seeing. Be blessed.

If you do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior over your life, I invite you to accept Him and His salvation now. Pray this prayer from your heart: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins. I invite You to come into my heart and make it Your home. I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins, arose on the third day and You are sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding for me. Thank You Lord Jesus, in Your Holy Name I pray. Amen.

Congratulations! Welcome to the family! If you have prayed this prayer for the first time, please let me know. I would love to share more information with you. I would also love to pray with/and for you.

If you wonder if you are saved or not, go to Biblegateway.com and look up the following scriptures: Romans 10:9-10; John 1:12; John 14:6; 1 Peter 3:18.

There are so many more. I encourage all of you; spend more time in your word. Begin to sacrifice and turn away from things that don’t lead you closer to God.

For You will light my lamp;
The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
For by You I can run against a troop,
by my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect;
the word of the Lord is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

-Psalms 18:28-30

I thank you for teaching us how to keep to word close so that we can use it when we need it.Thank you for saying meditate on the things of GOD instead of the problems....I love growing in the Lord and learning how to stay in HIM instead of in the world. I love you JESUS. THANK YOU!

Thank you for the words of enlightment. I too use to run in times of trouble. I still do at times. But as I grow stronger in the way of the Lord I become more sure of my rights as his daughter. Therefore I stand stronger in the face of evil. I'm only a few yrs from 50 and am still learning. Its something I've always enjoyed doing. I love to learn. Better at it than being a teacher, in my opionion. So thank you for teaching us.
