Is there Purpose in Staying Home? c2-head***

Is there Purpose in Staying Home?

by Anonymous

In our society, being a stay at home mom is often looked down upon. Taking care of our families is sometimes not seen as important as working in the "world." As women, that can put an enormous amount of pressure on us, and leave those of us who chose to stay at home feeling left out or unimportant.

Here is what one Christian stay at home mom had to say about her experience being a stay at home Mom.

I often feel as a stay at home mom
I have no real purpose.

hi...i'm also a stay-at-home mom of 4 children(only daughter in coll.,2nd & 3rd sons in highschool,& the youngest son is in grade 5),but not only that,i'm also a pastor's wife.actually,i'ts not my choice coz i'm an extrovert type of person but my pastor hubby wanted me to be a "sahm".maybe, the reason why i still wanted to work(until now) is becoz i really thought that i will have a purpose through that...so,when i read the diff.comments on this page,i was encouraged & realized that it is actually a blessing to be here at home,w/my family.i also recalled what my daughter had told me before that she doesn't want me work becoz she wanted me to personally take care of them,to be a hands-on mom to them...so,i now feel different after reading those comments & wasn't able to stop myself from joining in the discussions..thanks a lot & i hope that you will have articles also for pastors' wives like me,again, thanks.

COUNT IT A BLESSING!!!
by: KELI

I WENT FROM A WORK AHOLIC TO A STAY AT HOME MOM OVERNIGHT AND I MUST SAY AS TIME WENT ON I FELT USELESS JUST SITTING AROUND THE HOUSE FEELING SORRY FOR MY SELF. I STARTED TO PRAY EVEN MORE FOR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT MY PURPOSE WAS. I DID NOT REALIZE BEING A MOTHER OF 4 BEAUTIFUL KIDS AND A SUPPORTIVE WIFE WAS ALREADY A GREAT REWARDING JOB! IT WAS THEN THAT I REALIZED THAT GOD MADE IT TO WHERE I COULD BE AT HOME TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH MY HUSBAND AND CHILDREN, TAKE CARE OF HOME AT SUCH A TIME AS THIS! IT WAS GOD SITTING ME DOWN SO THAT I COULD GET CLOSER TO HIM IN HIS WORD BECAUSE HE HAS SOMETHING FOR ME AND THE MORE I GROW CLOSER TO HIM HE REVEALS MY SPIRITUAL GIFTS THAT I KNOW COULD HAVE ONLY COME FROM HIM, BECAUSE THEY COME SUPERNATURAL. THE REASON WE HAVE NOT IS BECAUSE WE ASK NOT, PRAY TO GOD IN THE "NAME OF JESUS" TO USE YOU AS A LIVING SACRAFICE TO WORK NOT JUST FOR YOU BUT THROUGH YOU TO DO HIS WILL, BECAUSE HE GAVE US LIFE FOR HIS GLORY TO DO HIS WILL. SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM AND HE WILL ADD THE REST! MAY YOU CONTINUE TO GROW IN GOD AND BE PROSPEROUS IN WHAT GOD HAS FOR YOU! I LOVE YOU MY FRIEND~

Yes you do have purpose!!
Being a stay at home mum is hard work , but so rewarding.
I consider it a blessing to be able to raise my family and be at home to provide for their needs.
Be encouraged if you are at home raising your children and you choose not to work outside the home, you do have a purpose... everything you put into your children as they grow, you will get out of them when they grow up.

God bless

Thank you Ameerah

I struggle with this frequently and have just quit my second job within one month. You think God is trying to tell me something? I thought that getting a job would help make things easier on our family financially. It might, but it makes me miserable.

That's what led me to this study. I wanted to find something that deals with the struggles women face in today's world while encouraging us to be that Prov. 31 woman that God has planned. I'm praying that my getting on my knees will give me better insight when I'm on my feet.

Thank you for your comment about finding ministry work versus material work. I think God's been rattling my cage in that direction too. :)

May God bless all you women who are seeking His direction for your lives.

You are not alone
by: Ameerah

I really want to tell you that you are not alone. Many stay at home moms feel that way because of the common belief that the work done outside of the home is more important than work done inside of the home.

But, I must ask you, what would God say about this new way of thinking that is sweeping out world?
In lesson 2 of our Proverbs 31 Bible Study, Let Her Works Praise Her, we talked about God's view of serving our families. I really think that short lesson may help.

Something else that may help is praying and asking God if there are any local ministries that He would have you serve. Even 2 or 3 hours a week on a Saturday morning can give you a chance to serve God's people and feel more like a part of His bigger plan.

God Bless,
Ameerah
