Challenges of Giving
by: D

I remember a time when I struggled giving $5 but am able to say I have grown to be able to easily give more than 10% to church and charities. I am however still challenged by verses like Mark 12 v41-44 (The Widow's Offering). Even more so this year given my business has suffered a large financial loss and giving 10% of a loss would mean I am not called to give but giving out of my wealth would mean I know what Jesus would want me to do. Extra complication is that any tax deductible gifts would be less effective when they can't reduce my 'income'. Comments or suggestions welcome as I still have a long way to go in learning about prayer and hearing God's specific word for me. Thank you and God bless.

giving...
by: jm

I find giving of my time sometimes the hardest thing to do, I know I do not give enough of it to the people closest to me, however I do have a tendency to give more to those not so close to me.
I guess there needs to be a happy mixture.
your study really helped me realise that there is more to life than just giving at the expected times of year we need to be giving all year round and can't expect people to feel great towards us, just because we got them expensive gifts at Christmas, sometimes the greatest gift really is our time.

Eye Opener.
by: Melanie

I unfortunately am very selfish when it comes to sharing and giving up my time with my husband and son. My husband's work schedule doesn't always allow for a lot of family time so when the opportunity presents itself, I grab it with both hands. I have a tendency to avoid dinner dates with friends, returning phone calls or even volunteering at church because I so desperately want to soak up every minute that I have with my family. After reading this study, I now know that this is an area of my life that I definitely need to pray about. Thank you for opening my eyes to my 'dilemma'.

I enjoyed reading this topic, it was really something I needed to hear. I am very giving, sometimes too giving. When I buy gifts for people I find myself belittling it because I feel what I have given is not good enough. As you said, I need to allow the other person to draw their own conclusions about the gift.
I was so disappointed this Christmas. I love the spirit of Christmas. I enjoy going out finding gifts for people that matches their personality or I know they may need. I put a lot of time into it. I did not get or expect anything in return, only a thank you. I didn't even get a thank you. I was just criticized because some felt I was only doing it to "pretend" I was rich and have all this money. I just wanted to show love, that is what Christ has done for us. He sacrificed his life to give us himself. But as the message stated, if we are not sharing love between each other the rest of the year, I can't expect them to have warm and fuzzy feelings that one time at Christmas. I know how I need to pray now. Thanks.

Giving.....
by: Krista

I would have to say that when it comes to material things such as money clothing food I am right there. I have no problem in the world to do that if and when I have it. My major problem is I dont give enough time. And i dont have the patients. My husband is the whole piece in our home that holds things together. I on the other hand want to be left alone. I would rather stay home most times when he wants me to be around him. We have 7 children between the 2 of us. So its caos most times. I try to be a great mother and wife but I am far from it. I want to be closer to God so that I can give to Him everything He gives to me. I pray that I can become the wife and mother God wants me to be as well as being a great daughter for my heavenly father.

Giving
by: Kat

Hey I am the mother of 3 and find the topic of giving an interesting one. Busy with three young kids you often feel you have nothing left to give. Thankfully God promises us he will provide the strength we need. I am so grateful that God provides so richly.
Money is easy to give I have more of a faith walk when it comes to my time.....

God Bless you ladies, keep serving him

Do You Give,Generously
by: Pat

Hi Annette
I truly enjoyed your post most times when people talk or teach on giving it's done in order to get a return,I give as the Lord has blessed me and I try hard to listen to his Spirit. For as we give from our heart and with the right attitude God is pleased and God has given us so much,we cannot pay God for anything or just give then say God you owe me those are the wrong attitudes.Love you Annette and keep up the good work.
