Four Faithful Friends: A Story of how Jesus Heals The Sick Because of Faith

Today boys and girls we are going to a house where we will get to see Jesus. He is in the town of Capernaum visiting there in one of the homes. News has spread fast so we will have to hurry if we are going to be able to see Jesus. He is very popular and a lot of people want to see Jesus. I don't know if we will even get very close to him.

Let's stay close together. I wouldn't want any of you to get lost. Come on now, let's hurry.

The streets are already full of people and I am not sure which house he is visiting. Do you see Him anywhere?

There are so many people. I hope we can find Him and at least get to see Him. Look! There is the house. There are so many people. They are in the house, in the yard, on the roof, in the streets. I don't think we will ever get in to see Him.

I hear Him preaching, but I don't see Him at all. He is telling people about the love of His Father and how He wants each of us to be with Him some day.

Look! There are four men carrying a man on a mat who is not able to walk. He must have been sick for a very long time. Listen. They are saying that they have to see Jesus and take their friend to Him so Jesus can heal him so he can walk again.

I don't think they are going to get him in that house. Why an ant can't get into that house, there are so many people in there.

They are trying to get him in through the door, but the people won't move so they can get him in. Now they are trying to get him in through the window. That didn't work either. I really have my doubts that they are going to get him in to see Jesus today. Maybe one of them could get in, but not all four men with their friend on that mat. It just won't work.

Why look. They are carrying him up the steps on the outside of the house. I wonder what they are going to do up there. There is a roof on the house. There is no door. I don't know what they are thinking.

I don't believe it. They are tearing that poor man's roof open.

They are gong to let him down through the roof. I say, that is one group of men on a mission! They are not giving up until they get their friend in to see Jesus.

Those four men are very good friends to go to all that trouble for someone who can't walk.

Can you imagine how heavy this man must be and they have carried him from where ever he lived into town and all around that house and then up on the roof of that house.

Then they tore open the roof and let him down to where Jesus was sitting.

Come over here boys and girls. You can see Jesus right through here. Let's see what He has to say. Jesus doesn't seem to be startled by the man just appearing down from the roof of the house. Listen. Jesus told this man his sins were forgiven. I wonder if he can walk now. I heard that Jesus heals people that were sick and I bet that is why these men worked so hard to get their friend in to see Jesus.

Do you have friends that are that good? I don't know if I do.

Look at those men over there. They are arguing with Jesus. They say He has not told the truth. They said that He could not forgive sins, only God can do that. I don't understand. Jesus is God's son.

Look. Jesus is talking to them.

Listen. He tells the man on the mat to take up his bed and walk. Look! The man got up from his mat and he is walking.

This is awesome. Jesus healed that man. He is going around telling everyone what Jesus did for him. The people are amazed at this. They knew he had been cripple for a long time. Now he just gets up and walks right out of the house.

THIS IS A MIRACLE!!!

Did you know that God does miracles now, today? He does. He loves us and wants the best for us. God performs miracles everyday of our lives. The one thing we have to have is FAITH. That is a small word when we spell it, but it is probably one of the biggest words in the whole English language.

These four friends of this poor crippled man had a lot of faith. They knew that if they could get their friend in to see Jesus that he could be healed and would be able to walk again. They could have given up when they saw all the people in the house and around the house, but they didn't give up. They knew they had to do whatever it took to get their friend in to see Jesus. They had FAITH.

This is what we have to do when things don't go our way. We have to have faith that God is looking out for us and will help us when we have problems. We could just say, it is useless to try, but then we would not have faith and it would not work.

If we ask God to help us and know in our hearts that He will help us, then things will be much better and God will help us through our problems. God loves us and wants to help us with our problems, but we have to love Him and show Him that we believe in him and he will help us overcome our problems.

Remember what the crippled man did after he got up from his mat and walked? That's right! He started telling everybody what Jesus had done for him. This is something we should do each and every day. If you are a Christian and you are saved, then you should be telling your friends what Jesus did for you.

You should tell your friends how Jesus died on the cross and was raised on the third day. We should tell our friends how wonderful we felt when we asked Jesus into our hearts and saved us. I know that this was the most wonderful time in my life. I have never been that happy ever again.

I know that sometimes this can be hard to do, but here again, you have to have faith that God will be with you and help you tell your friends about Jesus. All you have to do is ask God to help you and to believe that He will. Guess what? God will be right there and will help you tell your friends about Jesus and you will be excited that you did.

A question that may be on your mind is:

What is faith?

Faith is believing in things that you cannot see.

We can't see God, but we know that He is here because we feel Him in our hearts. When we do something we shouldn't, we feel Him tugging at our heart. We know that when we were saved, we felt a wonderful, warm feeling in our hearts. That was God filling us with His love.


Another question maybe is:

How we know that God is where we are all the time.

God is everywhere all the time. God never sleeps and we can talk to Him anytime day or night. He is always there and waiting to hear from us.

A verse that may help you to understand this better is found in Hebrews 11:1. It says, 'faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.' CEV

This tells us that we can believe in God even though we cannot see Him. We see evidence of Him everyday of our lives. We see the world, the flowers, the birds and everything on this earth. God created all of this and through this we know He is real. God created each one of us and we see each other everyday.

God is Real.

Another verse that may help you is found in Proverbs 3:5-6. It says, 'Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.'

This tells us that if we trust in God and have faith in Him that He will always be with us and help us in our lives.

Our Closing Prayer

Let's have a time of prayer before we end this time together.

Dear God, We thank You for always being there for us and all the things that You have done for us. We thank You for our homes and families and churches. Forgive us for not having as much faith as we should. We love You and want to be close to You. Please help us each day to live our lives the way that You would want us to live them. Help to have faith and to be able to tell our friends about Jesus. In Your Son's name. Amen.

I hope you had fun and learned about having FAITH everyday of your lives and to always ask God for help when things seem too hard for you to do.
