Trying to explain the Christian Halloween perspective to your children is not easy. But it is beyond necessary.

Everywhere they go from September 10th until November 10th, your kids will be surrounded by Halloween. The skeletons and skulls. The costumes and candy.

In fact, even you as parents may see so much Halloween propaganda that you become numb to it.

Many Christians have grown to think that Halloween is just a harmless tradition. Since everyone else is participating in it, it must be ok. Right?

Wrong!

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. -Romans 12:2 (NLT)

Most Christians do not know the true meaning of Halloween, or they would never let their children participate in it.

They don't realize that it is a dangerous ritual based on a pagan belief in channeling spirits of the dead. A sinful tradition that has passed from generation to generation for over 2,000 years.

But, there is no way to keep your kids away from this celebration of demons without sitting down as a family and explaining what it really is.

Taking time out as a family to talk about this important subject better equips your kid to deal with pressure and temptations to participate when you are not there to speak for them.

We can not just stick our heads in the sand and ignore what is going on around our children. If you do not take the time to arm them with the truth and the Word, they can be drawn to this dark holiday like everyone else around them.

It is sad that even Christians have started thinking that dressing up as monsters, or even Satan himself, is no big deal. Whether we realize it or not, when we participate in Halloween, we unknowingly steal glory from God by celebrating the things of the devil.

God warns us of demonic spirits many times in His Word. By allowing your kids to participate in a ritual that was actually created to honor demon spirits, you can open them up to demonic influences.

The purpose of the Christian Halloween Family Bible Lesson is to open up a dialog between you and your children concerning this dangerous day. The Lesson gives you a quick Halloween history lesson , God's unchanging viewpoint, and even discussion questions to spark conversation.

How To Use The Christian Halloween Bible Lesson

 
Because of the nature of the topic, this Family Bible Lesson is designed for families with children ages 6 and up. Smaller children may have a harder time comprehending the ideas.

I recommend that you focus on the fun Christian Halloween alternatives for smaller kids and use a combined approach for older ones. Still, you know your kids best!

'How To' Steps:

1. Read through the lesson yourselves so that you understand the history of Halloween and the scripture references you will be introducing.


2. Pick a date.


3. Decide how you will make the event special and fun. Even popcorn and chips can add a little excitement (see Making Family Bible Time A Memorable Tradition for great ideas!).


4. Promote the exciting event! Announce the topic and the "fun" activity you will be doing that day.


5. Sit down as a family and read through the Christian Halloween Bible Lesson. Feel free to skip parts that you think are too advanced for your children, or to add in extra questions or topics.


6. Use the discussion questions to gently steer your kids in the right direction.


• Kids always respond better if you let them logically arrive at a conclusion themselves versus telling them what to think.
• But, you know your children best. The discussion questions can be great opportunities to add in things that you think they need to hear.
